The best part about my food choices is having a colorful selection of foods to choose from. Healthy eating isn’t just about portion control, it’s also about variety. What do I mean?
You could be missing out on key vitamins your body needs to function by sticking to a bland-dull diet!
As babies, our parents gave us a new food to sample weekly, until our taste buds rejoiced. As a Health/Nutrition student, I’ve learned a loss for textures and tastes as adults may be the result of a small hiccup due to a decrease in zinc.
It’s common for most peoples palette to not include fruits and vegetables, especially here in the US where the typical American dinner is either hues of brown also known as fast food or a T-bone steak alongside a toddlers portion of mashed potatoes and some stringy pieces of broccoli douched in cheddar cheese or salt.
Even those who take multivitamins to replace eating fruits and veggies might be missing out. The undiscovered world of vitamins is still underway and there’s no definitive answer except to eat your way to healthy, and if desired add vitamins as a bonus.

What color has to do with nutrition?
Blues and Reds: Blueberries and strawberries to name a few are great for keeping your body balanced. These gems are packed with fiber, folate, Vitamin B6, Vitamin C and so much more. Did I mention they’re cholesterol free? That means they have nothing but LOVE for supporting a healthy heart. Try them with your breakfast or as an afternoon snack.
Purple and Blues: Running closely behind reds and blues these foods are rich in color and are great for fighting any cell-damaging free radicals that present themselves as well as target cancer cells as well.
Even more important these colors are great for heart health, especially for those dealing with high blood pressure and obesity. Like the old saying goes the darker the berry, the sweeta’ the juice….haha
Yellows and Oranges: Do you like bananas and mandarins? Yellow and orange have essential vitamins that contain potassium, Vitamin E, antioxidants, fiber, micros, protein, and high water percentages that are necessary for body balance and stablility.
Greens: Of course I saved the best for last! These come with a mighty punch-packed with vitamin A, B, C, E, K, folate, magnesium, iron, calcium, potassium, fiber, zinc, protein, blood builders – this list goes on forever, I’ll just stop right here!
Go taste the rainbow- grab something dark and rich or bright and airy! If you’ve already thought about trying a new item, drop what it is down below! I am always up for trying out new foods.
Here’s to your health,
