Get the Kind of Hair You Want, without the FRIZZ-2

I used to wonder all the time about my hair and why it didn’t do what I wanted it to do when it came to protective hairstyles once I transitioned back to natural. It wasn’t until I really learned about my hair and the porosity of my curls.

Of course at this point, I had already big chopped twice because I was frustrated with being a natural (I’m sure most naturals can relate).

What is Porosity?
Porosity is your hairs natural ability to take in liquids of any kind. Sounds pretty boring right? Well look at it this way, every time you …your hair shaft either opens or closes.

That’s why it is so important when moisturizing or washing to start with cool water and work your way to warm water. Liquids can include water, moisturizers, or even henna hair dyes. So where do you start to unravel these curls and rid of this crazy frizz? With a porosity test.

Porosity Test:

  1. Take a strand of clean hair from the middle of your scalp (medium length is sufficed).
  2. Place the strand of hair in a glass cup of warm water
  3. Wait 3 minutes for the results

If the strand of hair sinks to the bottom you have high porosity. If the strand loads to the top of the water then sinks you’re low poa little while to sink after floating to the top of the glass then you have low porosity. If the strands hangs around in the middle of the glass then falls then you’re the lucky middle and you have medium porosity hair.

Porosity Results:

  • Low porosity gives liquids a difficult time when trying to penetrate your hair shaft. Using water-based liquids, moisturizers, leave in etc will help with this. More importanlty check the ingredients label.
  • Medium/Normal porosity well, you’re extremely BLESSED! Your hair has no issues with this subject matter-but don’t get carried away with being so lucky- use silicone free liquids and don’t overdo it using protein.
  • High porosity, I’ve found two methods have worked well:  the Liquid, Oil, Cream (LOC) method, and Liquid, Cream, Butter (LCB) method have both done my hair well.

So have you taken the test yet? Here’s to healthy hair🤞🏽
